Road trip! Golf getaway! Sporty vacation! Whatever you call it, you’re planning a trip for you and your buddies to hit some golf balls and make some memories. With a little help from Unknown Golf, you’ll get to focus on hanging with your homies and get the heck out of Dodge for a few days.

Where Ya Goin’?

It’s a golf trip, but you have to decide if the focus is on the golfing or the tripping. Do you want to do any sightseeing while you’re there, or just golf and goof around? Consider any one (or all) of these possibilities:

  • Destination Wow. Go big before you go home and hit a golf paradise like Hawaii or Scotland.
  • PGA Bucket List. Hit one of the PGA tour courses and live the dream.
  • Golf Glamping. Rent an RV and do a progressive tourney that includes a handful of different courses in a few days.
  • The Weather Watcher Way. Head somewhere you know the weather will cooperate, like Michigan in the summer, Florida in the winter, or Scottsdale any time of the year.

Who’s Coming with You?

Let’s be honest. Right now you may be planning for a foursome or two. But someday you may want to go all out and plan a reunion for your high school golf team, fraternity, or extended family. Pairings, scoring, and tee times are easy enough to organize on the Unknown Golf app that it’s totally feasible. Just saying… In fact, you can use the app to send everyone an email to remind them of their tee times.

Choose a Format (or2)

Will you stick with stroke play or match play? Scramble or Stableford? If you’re playing multiple rounds over multiple days, you could mix it up and try multiple formats on the same course. Or choose the same format in a multi-round tournament across different courses. The options are as plentiful as the dimples on a ball. (Just make sure everybody understands the format you choose. You don’t want to have to insert an asterisk by your victory.)

Shameless but extremely helpful plug:

Sound too complicated to set up? Not in the Unknown Golf app. See all the format possibilities with a free trial.

Order a Side of Smack Talk

What’s a friendly competition without a little banter? Make the trip and the game more interesting with some challenges and side games. This provides additional opportunities to talk trash, earn bragging rights, and make memories. Make up your own challenge or choose from any of these tried-and-true options:

  • Match play
  • Nassau
  • Wolf
  • Hammer Wolf
  • Skins
  • Team Best Ball
  • Tilt
  • 9 Point

Unknown Golf keeps track of who owes what to whom. Not like a mob boss keeps track of those kinds of things, though. Nobody will swim with fishes… unless there’s an unfortunate water hazard situation.

Who’s Leading Who?

Using a golf scoring app ensures the leaderboard stays current and players stay honest. It also eliminates having to do math at the end of a round or keep track of one of those little pencils for 18 holes.

Here’s the coolest part about setting up players on the leaderboard in Unknown Golf: you can automatically pull in their handicaps and other relevant information from GHIN. You don’t have to, if you’re keeping things casual, but you can!

Pics or It Didn’t Happen

Don’t assume you’ll remember all the great times or great shots you had on the trip. You need pictures to prove you played golf, receipts to show you sank the putt, and scores to show you shot at least one hole under par. Imagine having memories and bragging rights documented in one spot. Yep. You guessed it. Unknown Golf does that, too.

That’s it. The perfect golf trip. You’re on your own for transportation and accommodations. The app can’t do everything for you.
